Nathalie Borrero, a diverse textile explorer, began her creative journey with formal training in textile design in Bogotá, Colombia.

With a deep-seated focus on the artistic elements of textile design, trained in Taller 5 in Bogota, Nathalie has spent years exploring various techniques, including batik, weaving, felting, nuno-felt, and eco-printing. Her work is a testament to her profound connection with nature, which serves as both her inspiration and her medium.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Nathalie has spent the past 14 years teaching Spanish. This experience has profoundly impacted her artistic vision and practice. Teaching a language involves more than words; it’s about conveying culture, emotion, and perspective. Nathalie’s interaction with her students has enriched her understanding of communication and expression, skills that seamlessly translate into her art. The flexibility and adaptability required in teaching have mirrored her approach to her textile creations, where each piece unfolds with a unique narrative.

Nathalie’s artistic journey has awakened a passion for eco-printing, a process that captures the unexpected beauty of nature. She is drawn to the hidden wonders within leaves and other natural elements, constantly seeking to showcase their subtle details in surprising ways. For Nathalie, eco-printing is like unwrapping a gift—it reveals intricate patterns and colors that are often overlooked, creating the 'WOW' factor as foliage is transformed into breathtaking works of art. This unique technique allows her to see the world anew, uncovering the delicate, unseen universe that exists in nature’s smallest forms.

Currently, her work is characterized by its unique, unrepeatable nature, much like the leaves she often uses in her eco-printing. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation, capturing the essence of the natural world in its most authentic form. Nathalie’s approach to art emphasizes fluidity, letting go, and embracing asymmetry. She allows nature to guide her, welcoming the unexpected and celebrating the organic beauty it offers.

Nathalie Martinez’s artistic philosophy is encapsulated in her belief that to traverse is to transform. Through her work, she invites viewers to join her in this journey and to appreciate the intricate beauty that nature bestows upon us. Her dual roles as an artist and educator weave together, each enriching the other, and in concert they form the foundation of her unique artistic voice.
